The Chase’s Anne Hegerty has admitted that being in the public eye has forced her to grow a “thick skin”, as she’s regularly confronted with negative comments about her appearance.
Fortunately, it doesn’t sound as though she’s letting the nasty comments get her down, as she’s found the perfect response for her online body-shamers.
Anne - or ‘The Governess’ as she’s known to ‘The Chase’ fans - told the Express: “If someone asks, ‘Why are all the Chasers fat?’ you can say, ‘Body-shaming’s really hurtful and offensive!’ or you can say, ‘Because every time we get an answer right, we get a biscuit’.
She added: “I’m more defensive on behalf of the other Chasers than I am on my own behalf… You need to grow a thick skin.”
Anne has been a member of the ITV quiz show team since she joined as a Chaser in 2010, during series two.
She recently joined the rest of the Chasers, and host Bradley Walsh, on stage at the National Television Awards, when ‘The Chase’ was awarded Best Daytime Programme.
Statistics recently revealed that of the five Chasers currently featured on the programme, Anne has the highest percentage of victories under her belt, with 79% of her appearances on the show ending in a win for her.
She’s just slightly above Mark ‘The Beast’ Lambett, and Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha, who were on a not-too-shabby winning average of 76% and 75.5% respectively when the stats were released last month.
‘The Chase’ airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm.
