ITV is welcoming a new member to one of its most exclusive clubs, with the introduction of a brand new quizzing expert on teatime gameshow The Chase.

On Thursday, The Mirror reported that former contestant Darragh Ennis has been invited into the fold, as the first new addition to the Chasers since 2015.

This appeared to be confirmed by a tweet posted by Darragh, which read: “I’m really excited to be the 6th chaser on #TheChase.

“I’ve been working hard on this for a while now and can’t wait for my episodes to air. Well the ones I win anyway.”

ITV has confirmed to HuffPost UK that the Twitter account in question does belong to Darragh, meaning we should expect his episodes to air in the coming months.

Darragh first appeared on The Chase in 2017, scooping an impressive £9,000 for his team, who later all took minus offers from the Chaser, meaning his overall total was depleted.

The episode caused a stir online, with #JusticeForDarragh trending on Twitter after it aired.

Presenter Bradley Walsh previously told Radio Times: “We’re making more and more shows all the time, so we need to recruit more people all the time.

“So consequently, we have put our feelers out to find other people that will be suitable, and all will be revealed next year.”

He also insisted that none of the existing Chasers would be going anywhere, and that there may even be further additions to the group later down the line.

The Chase launched in 2009 with just Mark “The Beast” Labbett and Shaun “The Dark Destroyer” Wallace as its resident Chasers.

Anne “The Governess” Hegerty joined the group a year later, with Paul “Sinnerman” Sinha being added in 2011.

More recently, Jenny “The Vixen” Ryan became the show’s fifth resident Chaser, making her first appearance in 2015.

In the past few years, the team have made names for themselves away from The Chase, with most of them performing a Wizard Of Oz medley on Let’s Sing And Dance For Comic Relief.

Since then, Anne has also appeared on I’m A Celebrity, while Jenny made it through to the final of X Factor: Celebrity last year.
