A second referendum and cancelling Brexit altogether are among the options MPs will vote on tonight.

Speaker John Bercow has selected eight motions MPs can vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to on Wednesday as part of ‘indicative votes’ in the Commons.

Aimed at changing the government’s direction on exiting the bloc, the results of the ballots are expected at around 9pm.

1. Leave with no deal on April 12

Brexiteer MP John Baron has put forward a straightforward motion which tells the government to leave with no deal on April 12 if nothing is agreed by parliament before then.

2. Common Market 2.0

Tory Remainer Nick Boles and co-signatories hope MPs will get behind this softer, Norway-style Brexit option, which will see the UK remain in the single market and enter into a customs union with Brussels.

3. Common Market 1.0

Similar to the Common Market 2.0 plan, this motion by former minister and Brexiteer MP George Eustice advocates joining EFTA and the European Economic Area, and by extension the single market – but rules out the UK entering into a customs union with the EU.

4. Customs Union

Stipulates that the UK must leave the EU with a customs union, tabled by Tory Europhile Ken Clarke and Labour’s Hilary Benn.

5. Labour’s Brexit

Jeremy Corbyn’s Brexit plan includes a comprehensive customs union with a UK say on future trade deals, close alignment on the single market and matching new EU rights and protections.

It also advocates the UK playing a role in agreements on security, including access to the European Arrest Warrant, and participating in EU agencies and funding schemes.

6. Cancel Brexit if the UK faces no-deal

This motion by the SNP’s Joanna Cherry asks for Article 50 to be revoked altogether should the UK be staring at no-deal.

7. Second referendum

This calls for any withdrawal agreement passed by the Commons to be put to the people in a “confirmatory public vote”. Labour has confirmed it will whip its MPs to back this motion.

8. Malthouse Plan B

This says the UK should seek a “standstill” agreement with the EU while negotiators try to strike a free trade deal with the bloc.
