A baker has wowed the internet with a cake inspired by one of the nation’s favourite snacks: a Greggs steak bake.
Ruth Hoggett, who runs Creative Cakes by Ruth, created the cake for a woman who got in touch. The customer said that her daughter, a 15-year-old named Satira, was a big fan of the pastry classic.
“Love the randomness of this brief and I had great fun experimenting to make a good ‘steak’ sauce – a thin chocolate ganache with flecks of fondant running through it,” the Bristol-based baker said on Facebook.
The steak bake and the main cake were created using vanilla sponge with strawberry jam and vanilla buttercream coated in white chocolate ganache, she explained.
It wasn’t long before the likes on Hoggett’s page came rolling in and a fan soon posted a photo of the cake on Reddit, where it received more than 2,000 upvotes.
“Your ingenuity knows no bounds,” one person commented.
“That is unreal,” another person added.
Hoggett told Bristol Live she was overwhelmed by the positive reaction and had one very happy customer.
“Satira loved it,” she said. “I knew it would be a popular cake — the novelty food ones always are — but I didn’t expect the kind of reaction it has received.”
