You may be allured to the glittery thought of crafting your wedding from scratch but be warned, it may not be all you believe it to be. Do bunting fuelled arguments, mason jar breakdowns and glue gun ailments await? I address 8 myths surrounding DIY weddings.
1. It's cheaper to DIY
False. Well, it depends where you are in your crafting life. If you have to buy everything from a sewing machine, glue gun, printer etc then it can end up being quite costly. If you are just wanting to DIY some stationery then your costs will be quite minimal, but the outcome may not be as good as a professional touch.
2. You have to be good at crafting
False. You have to have patience and be willing to learn skills you may not already have. Not everyone has the skills needed, such as Bryony, who has epic origami skills.
3. It's time consuming
True. If you are planning on DIYing you need to get organised, start collecting, researching as soon as you can. The last thing you want is to be manically cutting out paper pom poms the night before your wedding.
4. It'll make your wedding unique
False. Well, it depends what you DIY, if you opt for a cookie cutter DIY wedding then no, it will not be unique. With more and more couples choosing to DIY you really need to just make things that are unique to you. Think of things that people know you for and find ways to craft them.
5. It has to involve bunting
True. If there is no bunting it is not a true DIY wedding. Learn to sew.
6. Your friends will be happy to help
False. Very false. They may not mind coming over for wine and crafting a couple of times, but two weeks before the wedding, when you may not be at your finest, help may dwindle. There are only so many lace doily induced arguments they can withstand.
7. It means you care more about your wedding than other non-crafting brides to be.
Well. I think it means you care enough to spend A LOT of time making it personal.
8. Adding glitter equals DIY
Totally true.
So tell me, will you DIY?
