The most popular cat names of 2019 have been revealed, with Poppy taking the top spot for female felines and Charlie coming in at number one for males.
Cats Protection asked the general public to share their cats’ names, and had a whopping 34,000 responses. Molly and Luna came in second and third for female cats, while Oscar and Alfie completed the top three for males.
Some unusual names that didn’t make the most popular list – but definitely get our vote – include Couscous the Puss Puss, Archibald von Snugglemuffin, Broccoli, Lord Puddington and Miss Fizzy Whiskers.
Imagine having to call those from the back door at night...
Luna was the highest climber of all the cat names, shooting up 38 places from number 42 when the survey was last conducted in 2014.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Sooty was the most popular name for black cats. Come on people.
Meanwhile the five most popular foodie names were Cookie, Bailey, Oreo, Pepsi and Merlot.
