The number of people who have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus has risen to 41,969 – an increase of 233 over 24 hours.

Since the end of April, the government’s daily announcement has included people in care homes and the community, rather than just in hospital, who have died.

But only those who had tested positive for Covid-19 are included, meaning anyone who died with a suspected case won’t be recorded.

The figures cover the period up to 5pm on Monday.

As of 9am 16 June, there have been 6,981,493 tests, with 113,107 tests on 15 June.

298,136 people have tested positive.

As of 5pm on 15 June, of those tested positive for coronavirus, across all settings, 41,969 have sadly died.
