Airlines have warned passengers flying to and from the UK to expect disruption following issues with French air traffic control systems.
Paris Airport tweeted on Sunday that the centralisation of flight plans had been hit by a “national computer failure” that morning, telling flyers to expect delays.
A spokesman for London Luton Airport said 17 flights had been delayed and easyJet had cancelled four flights at the airport.
easyJet confirmed online that it had been affected by the issue, telling customers to check the status of their flight on its flight tracker.
“easyJet has been advised of a partial failure of French Air Traffic Control systems this morning, resulting in significant delays and disruption to all airlines with flights either flying to and from France or going through French airspace,” a spokesperson said.
“Customers on cancelled flights will be given the option of transferring their flight free of charge or receiving a refund. We will also provide hotel rooms and meals for customers who require them.”
In a statement, Ryanair told customers that because of a “serious French air traffic control equipment failure”, long delays and cancellations were possible, “especially to flights operating across France”.
Meanwhile, British Airways told customers on social media that the airline had been “impacted by an air traffic control outage which is causing delays to flights using French and Spanish airspace”.
“We’re working hard to minimise the impact on our customers’ travel plans, but we are experiencing some disruption to services to France and Spain, as well as those which fly over these countries on the way to other destinations,” BA added in a further statement.
“Customers due to travel with us today should check the status of their flight on our website, BA.com, so we can let them know if their flight is affected. We are also offering flexible rebooking options for customers wishing to change their dates of travel as a result of the disruption.”
The delays come at the end of the school summer break, with many families expected to be flying home from holiday in time for the new term.
