Temperatures could nudge 19C in parts of Britain on Saturday – before plummeting once again in time for Mother’s Day on Sunday.
Despite optimistic predictions by the Met Office for a sunny London on Saturday, a cold front will begin making its way southwards down the country from the north west.
Some outbreaks of rain are expected in the north and even a bit of snow on the mountains in Scotland, turning things cooler in the south by Sunday.
BBC weather forecaster Sarah Keith Lucas said: “So that’s the dividing line between still warm conditions in the south – 18C in London, just 8C in Stornoway, so a real contrast in temperature north to south in the progression of that weather front.
“Looking ahead into the second part of the weekend, we’ve still got that front with us but it tends to die a bit of a death as high pressure moves in from the north during the north on Sunday.”
Sunday also coincides with the arrival of British Summer Time, with the clocks going forward one hour and leaving everyone with one hour less in bed on Monday morning.
