Parts of the country have already been affected by the bad weather with heavy rain causing landslides and travel disruption.

As well as logistics of single line in remote location, we are mindful that local weather forecasts are indicating further heavy rainfall in the coming days. pic.twitter.com/euhc5aBWxE

Rail services were also disrupted after part of the track was washed away by severe flooding on the West Highland Line between Crianlarich and Tyndrum in Stirling.

In five other areas on the same line flooding caused the ballast which support the railway line’s sleepers to dislodge.

National Rail engineers are examining the damage but it is expected that line closures will remain in place for the next seven days to allow the repair works to take place.
