A investigation has been launched after crew and passengers had to be quarantined at Gatwick Airport after an outbreak of sickness on a flight.

A number of passengers on the Virgin Atlantic charter flight from Barbados to London complained of feeling unwell while on board.

When the VS610 flight landed at Gatwick on Wednesday morning, everyone on board had to be medically assessed before being allowed to leave the aircraft, reportedly due to an outbreak of a “coughing sickness”.

The crew and passengers have all now left the aircraft, the airline confirmed.

A spokeswoman for Virgin said: “The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always our absolute priority, and local ambulance services attended the aircraft upon landing to provide medical assistance.

“We are working closely with London Gatwick Airport and medical teams to offer assistance to customers, and will conduct a full investigation into the circumstances.”

A Gatwick spokesperson said: “A small number of passengers and crew on board a Virgin Atlantic flight which landed from Bridgetown, Barbados this morning reported feeling unwell.

“In keeping with health and safety procedures, the relevant authorities were informed and an assessment was taken on board.

“Passengers have now been able to leave the aircraft and continue their onward journeys.”
