Today, it's not so much about will you start a business - the question is more a case of when and what.
The British start-up culture has evolved to such an extent that we're now Europe's most entrepreneurial nation - and the fourth best in the world according to the Global Entrepreneurship Index.
It's no surprise then that already this year 571,151 have been registered - with a couple of weeks still left to add another cheeky 10,000 to that number.
One in ten domestic properties in the UK is now home to a business and 2.9m homepreneurs are contributing £300bn to the British economy. Meanwhile the number of self-employed is set to overtake the number employed by the state any minute now.
What's behind this dramatic trend? The answer is not that simple. It's a bit about wages, it's a bit about technology - and it's a lot about awareness, opportunity and empowerment.
While many feel the start-up world, now well-and truly mobilised, can take care of itself, we beg to differ.
It's one of the reasons we've organised a day-long StartUp 2015 event aimed at helping those that are starting out with fresh advice, support and inspiration. And we were right about demand. Almost before we announced it officially, we had more than 1,000 people signing up for the free event.
The day will feature speeches from the UK's top entrepreneurs, including retail expert, broadcaster and seasoned entrepreneur Mary Portas; successful chef and restaurateur Skye Gyngell; and Richard Moross, founder of MOO.com.
It's a collaboration between Enterprise Nation and four headline sponsors; HSBC, small business insurer, Direct Line for Business, 123-reg and MOO.com. It is set to take over the entire first floor and Embankment level of London's historic Somerset House on Saturday 17 January 2015. It's going to be memorable.
We know from experience that the start-ups of today are the big businesses of tomorrow. Helping them to scale-up and arming them with the tools they need to identify what action will most help them reach their growth goal is vital.
The start-up eco-system is developing rapidly and this event aims to connect budding start-ups with experienced entrepreneurs who have the practical know-how to help inspire them and ensure that their year and their business get off to the very best start.
Richard Bearman, UK Director of Small Business at HSBC, said: "We are proud to support StartUp 2015 and the work it is doing to help aspiring entrepreneurs get their business ideas off the ground and running. Small businesses are the backbone of the UK economy, and HSBC is passionate about supporting their ambitions and growth plans."
Jazz Gakhal, director at Direct Line for Business said "We're excited to be involved with StartUp 2015 as we believe the UK has a rich history of enterprise and the last few years has seen a significant increase in the number of start-ups."
The day will include talks from former Apprentice stars Melody Hossaini, Solomon Akhtar and Felipe Alviar-Baquero.
