An elderly lady was spotted waiting for a bus at a Tesco trolley bay thinking it was a bus stop for more than 15 minutes – even leaning against a post and reading a book while she waited.
The hilarious image was caught on camera by Wayne Crossman as he waited in the carpark after he had picked up his lunch from the shop in Great Dunmow, Essex.
Crossman claims the woman had asked him if he knew what time the buses ran at as he walked past her but he not understood what she meant and apologised for not being able to help.
It was only once the HGV driver got into his lorry that he realised she had mistaken the trolley stand itself for a bus stop in the supermarket car park.
But Crossman says he did not have the heart to tell her and watched her stand there for another 15 minutes while he ate his lunch. She was still there once he drove away.
Crossman, 35, from Great Dunmow, said: "I had just dropped in around midday to grab some lunch and as I was coming out of the shop she was already stood at the area where you leave your trolleys.
"As I went past she said to me 'Do you know what time these things run?'. I didn't really know what she was on about so I just apologised and carried on.
"I got in my lorry and sat eating my lunch and then looked back to see her leaning against the post and she had now got out a book and was reading.
"It then dawned on me what her question meant. She thought it was a bus stop.
"I couldn't believe it. I was laughing to myself quite a lot. It was clearly a trolley bay so I have no idea how she got mixed up.
"I thought about getting out to tell her but I didn't have the heart to do it. It was a nice day anyway. I think if it had been raining I would have had to get out and say something.
"She was there for the whole 15 minutes while I ate my lunch and didn't look like she was going anywhere when I drove away. I have no idea how long she ended up waiting in the end.
"I did feel a bit guilty for not telling her but then I couldn't help see the funny side of it so I should my friends the picture and they all thought it was hilarious.
"Lots of friends did say I should have told her – I suppose I should have. I am sure someone must have said something to her in the end.
"It makes me laugh every time I look at the picture. How long did she end up standing there?"
