The Women’s Prize for Fiction has announced its much-awaited longlist, meaning our reading list just got a whole lot longer.
The list, which includes 16 books from around the world (all written in English), is made up of well-established and new authors, with seven of the titles being debut novels. The list features a previous prize winner and last year’s Booker prize winner, as well as a nomination for a non-binary transgender author for the first time in the prize’s 24-year history.
The books were chosen by five judges including Professor Kate Williams, Arifa Akbar, Dolly Alderton, Leyla Hussein and Sarah Wood.
The Women’s Prize for Fiction was set up 23 years ago to celebrate fiction written by women across the globe and every nationality, country of residence, age or subject matter is eligible. It was announced in February 2019 that the Prize had earned charitable status, as it continued its mission to provide a platform for women’s voices in the literary world.
