President Jacob Zuma played chess with 13-year-old Nokwanda Gcaba during the annual Jacob Zuma Chess Tournament in Mandeni, KwaZulu-Natal, and the president lost to the grand master. The president hosts the pre-Christmas tournament‚ and plays against the most promising players. Gcaba is from AmaJuba‚ Newcastle.

The tournament has become an exciting December event for KwaZulu-Natal school chess players since its inception in 2009.
