The roof of Paris’ Notre Dame cathedral was almost entirely destroyed by a fire on Monday night. The spire of the historic monument toppled down, with two thirds of the roof damaged before the emergency services were able to stop the blaze.

The EU has agreed to a flexible extension of the Brexit deadline, moving it to 31 October 2019. PM Theresa May dashed to Brussels late on Wednesday night to make a case for the extension. French President Emmanuel Macron was the only member of the EU initially against the longer extension, but eventually joined the other 26 states in offering the UK the “flextension”.

But France may not play ball.
Theresa May embarked on a whistle-stop tour of western Europe on 9 April, to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron. The Prime Minister was asking for leaders to support another short delay to Brexit.
She is expected to set out the rationale behind her request for another delay.
