Government shutdowns in the United States
The wall saga rumbles on.
A colony of elephant seals took over Drake's Beach in Northern California during the U.S. government shutdown. The lack of National Park Service staff meant the seals moved in undeterred. Since then, 40 pups were born on the beach.
A US government shutdown has seen a reduction in White House chefs, who are staying at home without pay.
The president's demand for a border wall has kept much of the government closed for more than three weeks, leaving thousands of workers without pay.
The shutdown is set to be the longest in US history.
