Impeachment

Donald Trump accounts for half the impeachments in the history of the nation, CNN's Anderson Cooper noted.
In a video, the president condemned the violent insurrection that he incited at the Capitol last week, and made no mention of his historic second impeachment.
Up to 15,000 troops are expected to arrive in Washington, DC, amid threats of violence to Joe Biden's inauguration as president.
The day before he is likely to be impeached a second time — for inciting a violent attack on the Capitol in an attempt to retain power — Trump went to Texas to lie about his wall.
Trump will be impeached an unprecedented second time for being “an imminent threat” to the nation.
If successful it would make Trump the only president in US history to be impeached twice.
Reports claim Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell had suggested to colleagues that he supported impeachment of Donald Trump. Senior Republican Liz Cheney, alongside other Republican representatives, said they would support an impeachment vote. The calls for impeachment come after a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol. If removed from office, Trump would lose his post-presidential benefits including pension, secret service protection and funding for staff. He would also not be eligible to run in 2024.
A number of senior Republicans have broken ranks with Trump and backed the impeachment efforts.
House Democrats are drafting articles of impeachment, which could be introduced next week.
Widespread calls have been issued for Trump to be removed from office early, either via impeachment or the 25th amendment.
