The firm friendship between Wikileaks founder and former Baywatch star has confused many. Pamela Anderson has turned her attention to activism since her acting days, throwing her star power behind organisations like PETA. Fashion designer Vivian Westwood put the pair in touch, with Anderson saying she wanted to learn how to become a better activist. Anderson, along with the WikiLeaks Editor, visited Assange at the Belmarsh high-security prison, where he is imprisoned for nearly a year for skipping bail.
Anderson is Assange's first visitor as he spends 50 weeks at the south-east London prison.
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange spoke via video link from prison to declare that he would not surrender to an extradition request by the United States, where he is charged with "conspiracy to commit computer intrusion". On May 1, Assange was sentenced by a British court to 50 weeks in jail for skipping bail in 2012 when he sought refuge in Ecuador's London embassy, where he stayed for seven years.
The WikiLeaks co-founder claimed his work had "protected many people".
He will appear in court again today.
