Occupational stress
While the term “burnout” has mostly been used to describe feeling overwhelmed or tired, it has officially been added to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) International Classification of Diseases. They describe burnout as “chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed”.
This must be taken seriously, as teachers are already leaving the profession at the highest rates since records began, with one in three quitting in the first five years
We should aim for every workplace to be a place which encourages good mental health, which encourages workers to speak up and be heard
