Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has launched the latest component of his Breathe London project, a trial of air quality monitoring backpacks. On 19 March 2019 he met with pupils using the bags at Haimo Primary School in Eltham. For one week, 250 children will trial the backpacks around the capital.
8.3 billion tonnes of plastic have been produced since the 1950s, with 8 million pieces making their way into our oceans each day. With plastic waste expected to double in the next decade, by 2050 it’s thought that ocean plastic will outnumber fish.

It would take a while to count the stars in the sky but that’s exactly what scientists, astronomers and countryside campaigners want you to do. The sixth annual star count is taking place over the next month to help map light pollution in the UK. To get involved you need to go outside, count the stars in the Orion constellation and submit your results online before 23rd February. The initiative was started by the Campaign to Protect Rural England and the British Astronomical Society.
