There has been a massive drop in the overall smoking rate in the UK and the EU, but it continues to remain one of the biggest health risks in the region. There were 489,300 estimated hospital admissions attributable to smoking in the UK alone in 2017-18, an increase of 11% since 2007. But there has been a massive drop in the overall smoking rate to 14.4% in 2018 from 19.8% in 2011.
