A parliamentary inquiry into ‘survival sex’ has begun in the UK. It looks at how those struggling with poverty are resorting to prostitution in order to cover essential needs. It comes as the United Nations’ special rapporteur on poverty, Professor Philip Alston, published his final report following an investigation into deprivation in the UK.
Police in Los Angeles, California, chased a motorhome for 35 minutes after it was stolen from a motorhome park. The driver crashed first into a tree in a mall parking lot, ripping off the side of the vehicle, before colliding with another car. Eventually the driver made a break for it and was quickly apprehended by the police.
Alabama Public Television chose not to air an episode of the PBS children’s show “Arthur”, as it shows the children’s teacher, Mr Ratburn, getting married to another man (well, aardvark). The director of programming said children can watch it without supervision of their parents. Gay marriage has been legal in the US since 2015, and the move has drawn criticism from the LGBT community and others.
He was sentenced to three years and six months.
Professor Alston said “austerity could easily have spared the poor, if the political will had existed to do so”. We need a radical change to establish the sort of society we want to become.
The alleged offence occurred in the Richmond Heights Woods.
