Surfers from around the world appear to defy gravity and buoyancy to stun the judges on the waves.
"See you soon, great warrior," said the El Salvador Surf Federation.
"I did what anyone would have done," he said. "The shark was latched onto her leg. I just jumped into the water."
The victim was brought to shore by other surfers who had fought off the shark but died of his injuries at the scene.
Carmen Lopez has only been surfing for a few months, but with the help of her coach Lucas Garcia, she wants to compete in the upcoming World Adaptive Surfing Championship in California and, in 2024, the Paris Paralympics.

His last words were: 'I just got the best wave of my life!'
