Some residents of Whaley Bridge in Derbyshire were allowed to go back to their homes on Wednesday, but most are still awaiting a green light from the authorities. Over 1,500 residents were evacuated last week after Toddbrook dam was damaged by flash floods. The RAF has been assisting with efforts to reinforce the dam and stem the flow of water going into the reservoir.
More than 1,500 people have been evacuated from the Derbyshire town since Thursday – and hundreds are still unable to access their homes.
Some evacuated people have gone back to their homes despite a very high threat to life.
Forecasters warned of the potential for up to 40mm of rain to fall in just an hour or two on Sunday afternoon.
The situation in Derbyshire remains at a “critical level”.
Speaking from the site, Boris Johnson said it looked "dodgy but stable".
“Everything beyond this cordon is classed as the red zone.”
